Update Your Contemporary Home with a New Roof and Energy-Efficient Skylights

At Golden Group, we offer a bundled price for performing a roof replacement with skylights, combining both projects into one. In addition, combining the two projects avoids having to go through two separate installations a few years apart. You will be saving money and hassle!

Rooftop skylights are an ideal way to help make your home warmer during the winter months. Skylights by VELUX adhere to Energy Star’s guidelines, improving the thermal envelope of your home.

Roof replacement with skylights to match contemporary architecture

There are skylights for pitched roofs and flat roofs, as well as for fixed skylights and vented skylights. You may not know that there are also skylights that are mounted directly on the roof and curbed skylights that include a base. There are tubular skylights that are long tubes that catch and reflect light into the home.

The type you select will depend on the type of roof you have, the size of the room beneath, your design style, and the desired function of the skylight.

Fixed skylights

These are the skylight windows that do not open. They provide light and a view of the sky or other scenery. Fixed skylights are generally installed on a high ceiling where they cannot be reached. As they do not open, they do not provide humidity control.

Vented skylights

This style can be opened by hand or by remote control. They are a good choice when condensation or excess humidity is an issue. Ideal for bathrooms and kitchens, they are more expensive than fixed skylights.

Deck-mounted skylights vs Curb-mounted skylights

Deck-mounted skylights are mounted flushed with the roof. The frame is flashed directly into the roof. Curb-mounted skylights sit up about four inches above the roof face and allow more flexibility in the size. They can offer more glass area than a deck-mounted skylight placed in the same opening.

Tubular skylights

Also called solar skylights, these are long tubes that are great for small spaces. Tubular skylights are equipped with a dimmer or exhaust fan or a filter to keep out UV light. They provide light where you want it, but do not allow a view of the outside.

Contemporary shapes and glass layout

The flat-roof skylight is a basic style that follows the pith of the roof. Tey can be deck-mounted, so they don’t interfere with the look of the roof line.

Round skylights are an unusual trendy design. They are rounded, as seen from the inside of the home, but are flat on the exterior. They may be deck- or curb-mounted.

Vaulted skylights can be a dramatic architectural feature. You might opt for dome skylights that project upwards. They can be rectangular, round, or pyramid shape. Dome skylights are usually made of acrylic and are less expensive than glass.

Contemporary styles and technology

Modern skylight technology provides low-emissivity coatings, pane layering, and glazes that increase energy-efficiency and extend the skylights lifetime. There are over 100 blind and shutter styles, colors and pattern choices available.
