How do you protect my home?

At Golden Group, protecting your home is our top priority. We cover your home with black heavy-duty tarps that each hold up to 2 tons of weight. The tarps are strong and protect siding, windows and exterior, protecting your exterior from a single scratch.

We protect your trees and flower beds by placing plywood over them. We use heavy duty nail magnets to ensure all nails are picked up and your children and pets can play safely on the lawn after we are gone.

What kind of payments do you accept?

We accept checks, credit cards, and we also offer financing with low monthly payment options.

Once the down payment and contract has been received, how long does it take to schedule my roofing installation?

Once receiving down payment and contract, most roofs are scheduled and completed within 2-4 weeks weather permitting. We file permits with your local building department right away, and order all materials and dumpster to be dropped the day before or on the day of installation.

What are my options if I decide to reroof?

You can choose a complete replacement of the roof system, involving a tear-off of the old roof, or a re-cover over the existing roof, involving only the installation of a new membrane and surfacing. MA Law only permits 2 layers of roofing material on a home.

Why does a roof need ventilation?

Ventilation helps remove the heat that builds up during the summer months and helps reduce moisture buildup under your roof. This helps your roof and shingles last longer by preventing the rooting of the wood and curling or distortion of your shingles.

How can I recognize when a roof has problems?

All too often, roof problems are discovered after leaking or other serious damage occurs. Periodic (twice-a-year) inspections can often uncover cracked, warped, or missing shingles, loose seams and deteriorated flashings, excessive surface granules accumulating in the gutters or downspouts, and other visible signs of roof problems.

My roof leaks. Do I need to have it totally replaced?

Not necessarily. Leaking can result because some flashings have come loose or a section of the roof has been damaged. A roof failure, however, is generally irreversible and results from improper installation or choice of materials, or from the installation of a roof system inappropriate to the building.

How long can I expect my roof to last?

The condition and lifespan of your roof will depend on the type of roof you have, the effects of your local environment and the maintenance which the roof has received. According to the American Society of Home Inspectors, asphalt shingles generally last 30-50 years.

Roofing product manufacturers offer a variety of warranties on their products. Take a close look at those warranties to see what responsibilities and financial obligations they assume if their products fail to reach their expected lifetimes.

How often should I have my gutters cleaned?

You should clean gutters at least twice a year. If you have many trees in the area of your home, cleangutters 3 to 4 times a year.

Should I worry about ice dams?

Ice dams occur when snow or ice on the roof melts and flows to the bottom of the roof. The melting refreezes and then causes water build-up. This water often finds a way into your home underneath shingles and through cracks.

Ice dams lead to extensive water damage. You should be alert to ice dams if you have a roof with a very low pitch in a colder climate or have an older poorly insulated home. If you think you have a problem, consult Golden Group Roofing today.

1. A leak in the attic.

After a strong storm or wind-driven rain, take a look in the attic for signs of leaking. Ice damming can also cause water to enter the house if you don’t have an adequate shingle underlayment or if the flashing (the aluminum or steel used over roof joints, like chimneys and pipes) has deteriorated.

2. Blistering or peeling interior or exterior paint.

When paint starts to peel off, the cause is likely trapped moisture in the house due to excessive temperature or high humidity from poor attic ventilation. The air in the attic needs to flow freely from the soffit to the ridge to reduce humidity. Make sure there is a vent in areas such as the kitchen or bathroom. Dryers should vent outside.

3. Stains on interior ceilings and walls; mold or mildew growth.

If you see stains or, even worse, mold growth inside your home, it may be caused by inadequate or faulty roof shingle underlayment that is allowing water to seep into the house. Inadequate ventilation could also be the culprit, which causes excessive moisture— conditions in which mold and mildew thrive.

4. Exterior decay, sheathing, and/or siding.

Poor attic ventilation is again a possible cause, but any condition that results in excess moisture can contribute to decay. One way to combat the problem is to put a vapor barrier between the insulation and the inside of the house, which can reduce the amount of moisture that goes into a wall and help the moisture escape from the wall.

5. Missing, cracked, or curled shingles.

If you see that your shingles are dry or practically break when touched, that means they have reached the end of their useful life and it’s time to invest in a new roof.

6. Dark, “dirty-looking” areas on your roof.

This could mean your roof has vegetation, fungus, mold, or algae growth, or that the shingles’ protective granules have been lost. This doesn’t mean you need to replace your roof, but these stains can reduce curb appeal. Cleaning the shingles is an option, but that could shorten their life. 7. Excessive energy costs.

A possible cause of higher cooling costs could be insufficient attic ventilation, requiring the cooling system to run excessively. In warm weather, inadequate ventilation will trap hot air in the attic, causing air-conditioning systems to work harder, or leaving your home’s interior hotter and less comfortable. In both hot and cold weather, moisture in the attic can become trapped and condense on the rafters if it’s not insulated properly. This moisture can drip down onto the insulation and reduce its effectiveness, potentially increasing energy costs.
